First I want to say that not all appear as it is. When you donate your vehicle to one of these website charities, you are more than likely giving your car to a 3rd party company who is paying the charity for the use of their name. Yes, it is perfectly legal for them to do this. But I don’t think that it is right. We don’t believe that it is morally correct.

A few years back I knew a guy that was in the junk car buying the business he was not doing very well; he partnered with a local charity. Within six months this junk car buyer was making big money. I sat down to eat with him and asked him how he was doing it. He explained the donate your car scams to me. He told me to get a charity and pay them $25.00 for each car you get given under their name. I was shocked at this. I didn’t know what to think. These are very misleading practices.

My suggestion to you is to go to the IRS website and read up on the charity donation laws; you will be surprised at what you find. If you are going to donate your vehicle to a charity make sure that you are giving it to the charity, not a 3rd person acting on behalf of that charity.

Go to your favorite charity sit down and talk to them. They will be more than happy to help you. Your church is also a foundation to look into. I want to look at this program, cash for clunkers, for a minute. I do not agree with this slick way of getting people in more debt. Our country does not need more citizens in debt. Let’s look at this program for a minute.

Let’s look at the Criteria for the Cash for Clunkers Program

Your vehicle must be less than twenty-five (25) years old. So if your car is over 25 years old, it is too old. These are the people that need help.

The car must get less than 18 MPG. I understand this; our country is very oil-dependent. To get the price of oil down, we have to lower our oil dependency.

Must be drivable. Your vehicle must be drivable. This way, the government knows that you use the car.

Must have been registered for the past 12 months. This is to ensure that you are updating your primary vehicle with the cash for clunkers program.

More About The Program

Must have been insured for the last 12 months with no lapse in coverage. If you can’t afford insurance or kept insurance on your vehicle for the previous year, that means you didn’t need your car.

You only get the grant if you are buying or leasing a new car. President Obama wants you to help him bail the automakers out of debt.

These criteria are pretty basic, but let us look at the last one. You have to either lease or buy a new car. This worries me. I feel like the Government is just trying to help the carmakers by putting the citizens of America in debt.

If this were meant to help the public, you would be able to buy up to three-year-old vehicles. The only people that are going to profit from this grant are people that were going to buy a new car anyway, thus saving them money.

What cars are the dealers going to be pushing on people? One thing that a lot of people fail to look at is the resale value of the vehicle they are buying. Please if you are looking into purchasing a vehicle under this program consider the resell value of the car you are thinking about buying. Always look at major purchases, resell value.

Now don’t get me wrong this will help some, but I fear that it might hurt just as many. I don’t feel that putting more into debt is the correct approach.

Now for the record, I have received a contract to dispose of some of the vehicles that are being sponsored by this grant program. But as usual, I give my opinion. We will be turning down the contract.

Time for an oil change Summertime is an excellent time to change your oil. Make sure that you use the recommended oil that your vehicle’s manufacturer recommends. While at your local oil change place have them change your air filter fuel filter and radiator fluid.

Ask the oil change place to check your tire pressure. Low tire pressure decreases your performance which consumes more fuel. So keeping your tires inflated to the right pressure save you money.

Now would be a very good time to have your radiator flushed to ensure that it is working at its peak during our hot summer days. Your vehicle’s radiator is what keeps everything cool during hot summer days.

Not only are these good practices but will save you money in the long run and short term. Your vehicle will operate at its peak performance, which saves you on fuel consumption.

Cleaning Your Vehicle Getting it Ready for Summertime

Whether your vehicle has been parked all winter long or used to go back and forth to work or school or play now is the time to give it the attention it deserves.

Here are a few simple tips to help you keep your car or truck looking great for years to come.

• Remove Floor Matts:

Shake out the dirt, rocks, and debris. Use a heavy-duty vacuum and vacuum them. You can use a brush, dish soap, and water hose to clean the dirt off of them, even if they are carpet. This will remove most of the stains off of them and keep them looking new!

• Interior Cleaning:

Wipe down your instrument panel with a soft, clean cotton rag. Use a gentle all-purpose cleaner for this. To get into the cracks and hard to clean areas use a tip. Use a dashboard protectant on your dashboard to help prevent cracking, warping, or fading.

Cleaning the Outside of Your Vehicle

Use a sprayer attachment on your hose to wet your car. Start at the top moving to the bottom. The reason you start at the top is a lot of the dirt will run down and off of your vehicle.
